Hot burnishing

Hot burnishing is a form of rapid treatment that protects the metal components of the firearm and renders them uniformly gunmetal black, but otherwise effects no other changes to their form or function.

The process consists of immersing the piece to be treated in an alkaline solution heated to 140-145° C and mixed with caustic soda and nitrites.
